Each day a little more happens

We are pleased to report a few pieces of news from Jakob. First, each week he's spending a little more time with the next room up from his current one and will soon be transitioning fully. This will bring new challenges for him as he continues to develop. We're excited because his educators said his development took a huge increase over the last 10 days. He's talking more (lots of babble, but more words have emerged) and growth milestones are becoming easier for him.

This week, our Parents as Teachers mentor came to see us and was very pleased with Jakob. She had him color paper which we folded and then he problem solved how to get into a pretend mailbox and retrieve it. He's stacking objects and recognizing himself and others when he sees photos. We love how well he's doing!!

This week Jakob started saying "Dude!" as well as knowing that the number "2" comes after the number "1" and we're pretty sure he's saying "Chechnya" (yes, like the country) but we're not sure why.

In a few weeks we have an update meeting with his daycare educator to talk more about what they're doing and will be doing so we can reinforce it at home.

We're planning a few trips to take place this summer and spring. One with our friends the Irwin's (http://www.itsallaboutbella.com/) to the Deanna Rose Farm and another hopefully to Omaha to see our friends Scotte and Annie and their new baby (she's due in a few weeks).

But for now, we'll settle for the amazing amount of sun, sandals and super fun with the little boy.

Double duty

Well, we promised you the photos of Marc's birthday party and here they are. There are a lot of things we could say to either explain them or to add insult to injury, but it's so much better to just wonder, isn't it?

In addition, the little boy is a full-fledged KU fan thanks to his Nana and Pape as you can see below.

Jakob also has the ability to move objects with his mind. Is this child limited by anything?!?!

Clean cut. . . on the outside.

Oh the little boy. He'd become quite a shaggy fellow and Kim thought it was time to do something about his hair to make him look a little less. . . well. . . homeless. Marc loved his curly locks but still to Sheer Madness they went on Wednesday to get the boy his third official big boy haircut.

We took before photos just after he woke up that morning to have a reference point. In hindsight, it probably wasn't the best time to take them:

Then, after he sat silent in the chair watching television, the finished product emerged:

Is it possible to improve on perfection? They may have done the impossible. . . made the most amazing little boy look even better.

Tomorrow, we head out to spend good Friday with Marc's parents. Have a great Easter this weekend.

A day in the life of Mr. Mischief

Although Jakob is only 20 months, today we feel like we ushered in the beginning of the terrible two's. We made the mistake of letting him sleep in to try to catch up on his sleep from having rotavirus last week. Oh yeah, did we mention he had rotavirus? He did. It was awful. . .

Today, while he slept in, we completely rearranged our bedroom in the anticipation of our new Serta memory foam bed arrival. We got about halfway done when our little Mr. Mischief woke up and came in to join us.

At first, everything seemed to be fine. Then the getting into everything started. This was followed by whining when we didn't get what we wanted. Lather. Rinse. Repeat for most of the day.

The bed did arrive and we're very much looking forward to sleeping on it and our new sheets tonight. You've got to get new sheets because the mattress is officially six inches taller than our previous one. Size does matter.

As you can see, one of Mr. Mischief's quests was caught on film:
Here I am!

I probably shouldn't touch that.

Let's close the door first so I'm not disturbed.

Into the bathtub!

What do these knobs do?

Mmmm, these candles should be mine.

Earlier this week Marc turned 35. There will be quite a few photos of our time at Joe's Crab Shack in the days ahead. This next week Kim is on spring break and will have some much needed down time. She was sick for a lot of this week with a variation of what Jakob had. No fun either. Marc is going to take a few days off to spend a few movie days with Kim and then we're all heading out to Marc's parents' house on Good Friday to celebrate Easter.

On Wednesday, Jakob will be getting his third official haircut. Marc likes it the way it is, but Kim has decided his curls are a little too much to handle so big boy haircut here we come!

We'll keep you posted on how things progress with Mr. Mischief's further adventures.
